Why Mulch

Mulching gets forest converted to farmland faster and more economically than any other method.  As there is no burning which is damaging to the environment, there is also no wait time to get permits. Since the mulched vegetation is put into the ground at its current location, there is no major redistribution of the topsoil which means better farmland in the future.  As we mulch land usually at least eight inches deep, there are less roots left in the ground to hinder farming operation.  With mulching there is more topsoil and increased yields.  In the picture below, you can see the mulched soil on the left and the slash on the right.

What are the major differences between mulching and traditional land clearing?

There is less expense, no compaction, no disruption of top soil, and nutrients are put back into the soil.

If I just want to convert the area to pasture, how deep should I mulch into the ground?

We still recommend that the land be mulched six to eight inches into the ground.  Mixing the slash into the first six to eight inches will prevent leaving so much mulch at the top that it will slow down plant growth.  This will also prevent the possibility that after a year or two, a cow will step on a partially rotten stump and break a leg.

How do you charge?

We charge by the hour, but we will guarantee that the cost will not exceed a specified cost per acre.
